Features Overview
Fulton Street
Watch as we turn this turn of the 20th century home into a gorgeous downtown bungalow. This home was actually 2 separate homes that were combined to make one. The homes both dated back to around 1900.
Fulton Kitchen
This home basically had a nonfunctioning kitchen.. this just would not do! And this is not where the final kitchen will land.. if you know me, no space is safe from being converted.
We have 12’ Ceilings!
Can you believe this? At some point to save cost on electricity the previous owners dropped the ceilings down to 8’! The actual ceiling height you can see where the light blue is. While doing our demo we found a ceiling above a ceiling! This was one of two pieces of great news during the demolition of this house.
Even Bigger News.. Wood Floors
As we were pulling up the old tile, we found the previous owners had put roofing tar paper over the original wood floors, with plywood on top of that and tile on top of that. It made for a lot of demo work, but worth the effort. These are not your standard 3/4” x 2.5” wood floors. These are 3.25” wide. Remember these two houses were built at the turn of the century. Overall the floors were in not too bad shape, but about 20” of them had to be replaced. To do so, We went on the hunt in salvage yards to find floors we could slide in to replaced the damaged parts. Once these are sanded and stained no one will know the difference. The original floors were red pine, which I have never run across in Houston, and sadly was unable to find, so we feathered in some white oak floors, and will have to stain them rather dark for the grain not to be an obvious difference. This being said, I would still prefer this to the brand new “engineered” floors we could have installed instead. I like to keep as much history in the house as possible.
Siding is almost done
The old wood siding was in very poor shape and just was not savable so we replaced it with a cement board type of siding that is better suitable for the harsh Houston weather. Though we were able to keep the original decorative siding in the gables. We will sand and clean this up, give it a good sealing before we paint it.
Not just Lipstick on a Pig
This House was a 100% renovation
The Siding is up, the new Roof is next, the paint is going on..
